Can you tell that we’ve got soccer on the brain?  Not just us, but everyone else as well by the looks of it.  Developers aren’t making it any easier either since they want to continue capitalizing on its current marketability.  Our latest submission for your approval is Gameloft’s homegrown title.  2006 Real Soccer they call it, and it just happens to be the best football title you can get right now.

But why do I make such a bold claim you ask?  For starters, it’s the biggest game available.  All of the 32 national teams participating in this year’s World Cup are present.  Along with those, there are 16 club teams from the biggest leagues such as FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.  If that isn’t enough, there are an additional 24 teams that can be unlocked and include classic line-ups from national teams, All-star teams and other national teams that weren’t present at this year’s Cup.  Altogether, there are over 1000 of the top players from around the world.  All of this wouldn’t make much sense however if all you could do was play a friendly match, which is why there are plenty of modes available.

In total, there are 10 types of competitions to take part in.  Instant Play gives you quick access to a match.  Friendly allows you to set teams and certain parameters.  (The cool thing about this mode is that you can pit club teams versus national teams.)  The obligatory World Cup mode is available to take your favorite national team all the way to the top.  (This mode will even give you a chance to take part in preliminary qualifying matches if you’d like.)  There’s an additional Cup mode that’s further divided into four other cups with different teams participating.  You can also set up a League for different clubs or nations.  A Penalty Kick mode let’s you partake in a striker-goalie competition, and finally, if you need more practice, a Training mode is available.  How’s that for plenty of options?

When you’ve finally made your choice of what competition you wish to participate in and have selected your lineup, it comes time to play and this doesn’t disappoint either.  The action is fast and fluid with all kinds of intensity.
