Orcs & Elves is a new fantasy adventure game from the creators of DOOM RPG. As the story goes, a Dwarven Citadel has been overrun by an army of Orcs and other strange creatures under the control of an evil witch. In the role of a noble Elf, you’ve traveled to the besieged mountain fortress of your friend Brahm, King of the Dwarves, to investigate but discover upon arrival that the situation is worse than you thought. Armed with only your magical talking wand and trusty sword, you must now lay waste to the dark army and reveal what has happened.
The story unfolds through nine areas of the citadel riddled with monsters, traps, puzzles and untold riches. Within, you will also find mystical weapons and magic potions to wield alongside communicating with friendly Dwarf ghosts. Like DOOM RPG, it is a first-person tactical RPG in which you combat enemies in a turn-based manner and “level-up” your character to become more powerful. As usual, a vendor will aid in this by offering items at a certain cost of gold coins. This time around, the vendor takes the form of a Dragon who, depending on its mood, can be bargained with for better prices. I would suggest keeping your bargaining price at adequate amounts however, considering it is a Dragon you’re bartering with.
Each level will have a different goal to accomplish and you’ll begin to realize that different enemies will have a variety of attack patterns and weaknesses. To combat them, your weapons available will have close up and long range attacks and can be scrolled through quickly for maximum damage. If you also happen to use one of the many potions or be equipped with one of the special items found, you can become a much more intimidating presence. One of the more interesting and funny items to pick up and try is the Dwarven Ale. Your strength and defense points will increase, but accuracy will decrease on account of you being drunk. What’s funnier, try drinking it and using different items to experiment with their results. It’s items like these and the number of hidden passages to find or conversations with the Dwarf ghosts that make this adventure that much more entertaining.
