One of the more noticeable improvements over DOOM RPG is that the game uses a next-generation engine that allows for better detail and graphics.  Characters have better presentation, colors have more shades and effects are much crisper.  Just pay attention to when you’re drunk and you’ll see objects swirling and backgrounds moving to create a real intoxicated-like state.  In-game cinematics and a digital musical score with over 100 sounds effects have also been included to deliver an all-encompassing atmosphere.

Overall, the game possesses over five hours of game play because it is that large.  It took me well over eight hours to make sure I completed the game 100%.  That is, killed all the enemies, found all the secrets and recovered all of the items.  A good thing is that you can save your progress anywhere at anytime and come right back to that point after your girlfriend gives you that look of not paying attention to her.  Seriously, I got lost in the game and didn’t want to put it down.

On the surface, I guess you could say that Orcs & Elves is DOOM RPG wrapped in a nicer and differently themed package.  It’s got a similar storyline dealing with enemy infiltration, combat mechanics are the same, and even the perspective and layouts draw comparison.  I’ll agree with all of those points but I’ve had the opportunity to play and review both and I can still tell you that these won’t really matter.  In fact, I feel that these similarities are some of its strengths.  The game still has a great sense of adventure but within a completely different universe that’s most likely to grow into many more game titles.  Certainly you will enjoy it if you enjoyed DOOM RPG but I also think that the theme of this game broadens its appeal so there should be more players out there set for another fantastic mobile game.
