AirPlay Live Football is a new mobile entertainment app that gives football fans a new way to enhance their game-viewing experience. It also gives them a chance to show their knowledge and compete against others during a live game broadcast.
The premise of AirPlay Live Football is that it lets you predict every play of the selected game, before it happens. Participants are allowed to choose between a Run or Pass, play direction or distance, and what team player will get the ball. If the call is predicted correctly, points are awarded for every correct portion of the play called and a move up the real-time leader board is granted. If an incorrect choice is made, points are removed from your total score.
For instance, if you select a Run play to the Right of the field handed off to LaDanian Tomlinson (if you’re watching a Chargers game), and the play unfolds as a Run play to the Left of the field handed off to LaDanian Tomlinson, you’ll get points for the correct portion of your call but will be minus points because of the direction of the play. You can also just simply choose to pick between a Pass or Run play, but the amount of points earned will not be as high.
Two other choices are available that will give you the chance to earn extra points. You can predict whether or not the defense will Blitz, or if you’re incredibly sure of what the next play will be, you can select Double and if your guess is correct, points earned will be doubled. This, however, can only be selected once per series of downs.
Each game is broken up into the four quarters with winners being proclaimed at the end of each and an overall winner for the entire game. To add an extra sense of community and participation, live opinion polls are conducted at times during the game and messages in regards to leader board standings are displayed. Game news and Trivia Questions related to each football game are also available for the true die-hard.
I had the opportunity to try the app over kick-off weekend and had a great time enjoying the competition. Selecting predictions and having the results downloaded almost as quickly as the game happened provided instant moments of gratification or disgust, depending on whether my prediction was correct or not. The network responded quickly, even when plays were called back due to penalties or other unforeseen circumstances. A great inclusion is that the game “locks out” predictions after a certain time, meaning that if you wait too long to make your choices, you will not be able to make them for that play. This keeps people from sitting on their phone making selections while plays are happening.
AirPlay Live Football is a must for any fan looking to be more interactive while watching the game. It stirs up greater emotions and allows you to connect with other like-minded viewers. The only downfalls are that you will eat up some airtime minutes and your phone’s battery will drain, but as long as you’ve got a good plan and are plugged into the charger, alongside your bowl of chips and remote being handy, your football viewing will never be quite the same anymore.
