Bubble Bash for iPhone is basically the same match-three puzzle game it is for standard mobile phones with the exception of sharper graphics and a different interface. It features two kids living on Bubble Island on a treasure quest that spans 100 levels.
In general, multi-colored bubbles must be totally eliminated from the screen in order to complete the level. This is handled by shooting one bubble into a group of like-colored bubbles, and matching at least three will work. There are, however, different level objectives to play around with. For example, one level type will constantly move your platform upward, moving the boundary line up closer to the group of bubbles and possible failure. Another type is target practice against Toucans and still another is to release balloons at the top of the bubble stack as quickly as possible.
There are of course special bubbles available a sampling of them include explosion bubbles to clear areas, rainbow bubbles that change colors, and gift bubbles that drop items for extra points. Boss battles are also part of the experience and they deliver fresh experiences using the game’s mechanics.
As in the mobile version, a unique point is instilled by the balloons atop bubble groups. In essence, when you add a bubble to the group, it weighs the balloon down, moving the group closer to the boundary line. This feature adds an extra edge, but even more so is the option of turning Gravity on in the game. What this does is put your players on a wheeled cart, adding extra side-to-side movement when tilting the phone. Another interesting option available is the ability to listen to your own music while playing.
The touchscreen interface involves sliding the bubble aim left or right with your finger and having it fired when the finger is removed. A different setting allows for tapping the screen when you want to fire. Both methods work just fine though you’ll get in less bubble trouble using the tapping method.
Bubble Bash for iPhone also includes the Crab Fever mode where the level is never-ending as more bubbles continuously appear, moving further down to the boundary line. This mode probably isn’t as captivating as the Arcade story mode but works well and gives you something else to work at. In general, the game is entertaining for its style of play with enough variation to make it worthwhile.
