NOM is an overly simplistic yet entertaining title that has been around for some time but only until now has it arrived in North America.  I’m uncertain as to what the inspiration for the game was, but sufficed to say that it will be a unique experience to anyone who tries it.

In the game, NOM does his best impression of Forrest Gump as he continuously runs seemingly to escape his unhappy world.  Through 10 levels, he needs to avoid all sorts of obstacles and dangers that have him leaping, fighting and somersaulting in order to keep on truckin’.  The biggest hitch to all of this is that these feats take part on all sides of the mobile phone’s screen, which means, you must constantly rotate your phone in order to maintain an upright perspective.

At times, NOM finds himself bouncing off walls to go in the opposite direction or also does his version of the moon walk by running backwards through the level.  This is sure to cause some confusion and use up some continues but even so, keeps you riveted on his quest.  Add a little dose of humor, and the fun just keeps coming.

Through the entire game, all you have to do, besides rotate the phone, is press a single action button.  NOM does everything he needs to do in every situation with that single key.  This means performing all of the jumps and leaps, but also fending off enemies and taking on the occasional Boss character.  The one-button controls are perfect for this game because it keeps things simple, but those looking for a steeper challenge will find it in the three speed settings available.

NOM is elementary in looks and sound, and though it can be tough on the fastest setting, it is not insurmountable.  It is unfortunately a quick game to complete, but because of its unique style and simplicity, it works for quick bursts of gaming and continuously feels fresh.  It’s a game about timing and reaction, infused with fun and technique, and one that can only be pulled off on mobile.
