Peggle is another cool casual game from PopCap that’s made it over to mobile from the PC arena. It’s a combination pinball/pool/pachinko game set in a fantasy world that’s sure to keep your attention.
In the game, you are to clear orange pegs from a pachinko-like board by firing a silver ball from the top of the screen and seeing it bounce it’s way randomly to the bottom. While some of this is out of your control, aiming where to shoot is not and you might also be lucky to hit a few helpful pegs that contain magical powers like a multi-ball and aim guidance. Stationary and moving items also appear at times to provide even more randomness.
You are only given a certain number of balls to fire and if you have not cleared all of the orange pegs after that inventory is exhausted, the game is over. There is however, a catcher moving across the bottom that can replenish one ball if it happens to fall within. Of course, you’ll still need lots of skill, strategy and luck to clear each ensuing and more difficult level.
Outside of clearing the orange pegs however, there’s also a matter of scoring as many points as possible. This is achieved by clearing many pegs in combination, special point pegs, and increasing multipliers. You can even win a bonus amount by completing the board on your very first try.
There are a total of 55 nicely varied levels to clear in Adventure mode that takes you through the game’s storyline which introduces you to the Peggle Masters. After each is cleared, they can also be replayed in either Quick Play mode or Duel mode. Quick Play allows you to play any level of your choosing while Duel Mode gives you a chance to play a friend where you take turns shooting a ball for the highest score. An extra mode is Challenge where extra tough missions are to be had.
Peggle is fun and entertaining with a good amount of challenge. It is a very casual game so the controls only consist of moving left or right to aim and a shoot button, making it perfect for mobile. It is a different type of strategy game, outside of matching items and so forth, so if you’re looking for a good change of pace yet pleasing and easy, this game should be on your radar.
