Scene It? TV Edition brings a new round of trivia fun loaded with thousands of questions from your favorite television shows past and present. The mobile game plays different than the board game, since a board is unavailable to move about in, but nevertheless continues to challenge your pop culture knowledge.
The game asks questions based on familiar Scene It? categories as well as new TV-themed ones such as Spin-offs, Catchphrases, Theme Songs and Ad Slogans. Aside from that, audio and video clip questions are also now available. (This feature is only available for capable handsets of course.)
In Single Play, you go through four rounds of four questions from the different categories. Your score is based on how many questions you answer correctly and even though there is a countdown clock, the speed in which you answer doesn’t affect this. Bonus points are awarded for streaks of correct answers and also if you get through with a perfect round. If you don’t care what your score is and just want to play for as long as you want, Nonstop Play mode is available.
Group Play features the same number of rounds and scoring structure but allows 2-4 players to participate by passing the phone around. If you want to take on the challenge of competing against others, you can participate in Miniseries mode. In this mode, your score is compared to those of other players who have elected to post their scores online. Here, extra game varieties are offered such as Editor’s Choice, Weekly Dozen, and a Survival mode that is basically a last person standing mode. These don’t take place head to head, but instead simply rank your score against those of others who played the same pack.
Between questions you’ll be treated to some interesting production notes offering fun facts about the shows, and this is cool for trivia buffs who would like to know more. Because the game constantly connects with a server, there are plenty of questions to go through, yet it won’t be uncommon to have a couple of repeats once you’ve played the game a few of times.
Scene It? TV Edition offers a substantial lineup of up-to-date trivia questions including real television clips and audio. The only real ingredient missing is the game board, which would have been a great addition to the competition between friends, but it’s still quite enjoyable nonetheless.
