As a Sim in the PC universe, it’s not uncommon for players to take part in many realities that occur to us here on the outside as well, and one of the most popular is to have a Sim pet by obtaining the pet expansion pack.  For the benefit of those who really enjoy this add-on and wish to take that similar experience on the road, The Sims 2 Pets is now available for mobile.

In this standalone version of the game, players get to adopt a puppy, teach it tricks, and give it the love and attention it deserves. Like other similar titles, feeding, bathing, playing and cleaning up after the pup are all part of the duties.  This too includes reprimanding it and changing its behavior.  Now, you’ve probably seen this all before but where this game differs from all others is that users play the role of a Sim in the game, and therefore, there are other objectives to be aware of.

The main purpose of the game isn’t just to nurture the doggy, but to maintain your Sim happier and more productive as well.  What this does is allows your Sim to climb the corporate ladder in their life.  So, the more goals you complete with the pup, the further the Sim advances in its career, and the larger the paycheck it earns each day.  This really opens up the game by giving you the ability to obtain many different levels of items like food and toys.  Of course, most of the time you will still spend interacting with your pet.

The entire game is presented in 3D as you start by creating your own customized Sim and then select the puppy of your choice.  As you play, time is only a factor while the game is on, so if you need to leave it, you can come back to it a couple of days later and still find a living pet.  The developer has also gone to lengths in order to give an authentic Sims feel by providing audio and voice-over talent that is present in all other versions of the franchise.

The Sims 2 Pets is actually quite deep in terms of goals to accomplish, activities to take part in and items to open.  (It has five breeds of dogs, including a special secret one.)  Add to it the spiffy 3D look and accurate audio and you have a virtual pet simulator that fits in perfectly within the Sims universe.  Still, I can’t get over how needy dogs can be, which is why I probably prefer cats.
