Sequel to Super Boom Boom, as if you couldn’t already tell, Space Adventure takes the pirate action from the original and throws it out the window in favor of an intergalactic escapade.  Much of the same gameplay is kept intact except that this time, instead of shooting cannonballs you are shooting orbs.  These orbs will allow you to destroy the Boss monster at the top of the level so that he may release an special type of much needed ore.

As with the original, the premise is to get the orb all the way to the top of the stage by shooting it from cannon to cannon.  The problem here however is that the cannons aren’t always stationary so you have to time your shot at the precise moment they are in direct line of fire.  Aside from that, in the new game there are a number of additional means of transporting such as elastic cords, mechanical throwing arms and other strange contraptions.  Some of these require extra taps, shooting diagonally or just plain being lucky.  Additionally, there are three helpful items accessible that can warp, triple jump or give you an extra orb.

Once you’re at the top of the level, a quick Boss fight ensues that usually consists of you shooting at your target using that same orb, or orbs, depending on how many you have left.  (There are usually five to begin with and those basically dictate how many tries you have before having to press start again.)  If you do lose all of your orbs, you must begin from the beginning of the stage, and that’s somewhat of a bummer.

Aside from the Story mode there is a Casino mode that gives you the chance to win what are called GP points.  Playing Roulette, Dice or Slot Machine, you can place bets to increase your initial allotment to open up three other modes in the game.  Now these three casino games aren’t very robust at all, and might even seem a bit pointless, that is unless you REALLY want the other modes open.  And do you?  Well, two of the other modes simply consist of extra playing stages, while the third mode is sort of a driving game.  Sort of because you only move a spaceship left and right to avoid oncoming asteroids.  The first two modes are good if you enjoy the game, but that third driving one is kind of lame since controls don’t work so well.

Another way to gain enough GP if you aren’t patient enough to win in Casino, are to use the new micro-transaction method that has been implemented into the game.  This means actually paying an extra amount through the game to gain more GP.  Again, only if you REALLY want these extra modes and even though Super Boom Boom 2: Space Adventure is fun and easy to play, spending that extra cash is totally on you.
