Text Twist Turbo is the new incarnation of the favorite PC word game where players are challenged in creating words by using a group of letters presented in front of them. There are three modes available to play and each one allows you to compete at your own pace.
Basic Puzzle lets you create three to seven letter words by rearranging the given letters. Longer words give you more points and to complete the level, you must figure out the longest word or gain enough points. In Twist Puzzle, you must rearrange the given letters to form words. The next level opens when enough words have been solved, marked by the gauge at the top. The final mode, Daily Play, is an online mode where you work to solve as many words as possible from a predetermined word list. Doing so as quickly as possible, you can then compete against other player’s times by submitting the results online.
Again, there are no timers involved in the offline modes so you can take as long as you want with each level. I’m not sure if I really like that idea because there really is no pressure to complete the levels. Sure, there is a challenge in trying to figure out all of the words for 100% completion and higher scores, but what I remember from the first Text Twist is the anxiety caused by trying to solve the longest word as the clock ticks down. It would have been great if an option with a timer were made available.
Overall, the game still does a good job of keeping your interest when trying to come up with the words. Each mode does feel different and while it is somewhat easy to get to the next level, wordsmiths will be challenged when reaching for that 100% completion rate. Ideally, I guess it would be a great game to play with younger kids so as to spruce up their spelling and vocabulary skills while out on the road or something. The controls make it very easy for this.
A nice bonus to Text Twist Turbo is that if you purchase the download, you can get a free copy of the original PC version to play on your computer. This way you all don’t have to crowd in front of the small phone screen. Word games are getting a bit tougher to come by on mobile, so you might want to check this one out while you can.
