Though no longer the number one player in the world, Tiger Woods is still the number one name in golf, both real and virtual. With EA Sports™ Tiger Woods PGA Tour ® 2005 for mobile, golfers not only get the chance to take on the greens of The Black Course at Bethpage but also get to experience wireless golfing at its best.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 has three playing modes. Solo Play allows you to take on the course as Tiger himself. You can choose to play the entire course, the Front/Back Nine holes or specific holes to practice on. Player Vs. Player gives you the same choices of game play, but you can challenge a friend using the hot-seat method. The last mode available is Legends. Here, you’ll take on actual legends of the PGA Tour including Jack Nicklaus, Seve Ballesteros and Arnold Palmer. In order to play this mode however, you’ll have to earn enough money to unlock each golfer.

There are a number of ways to earn money including simply playing Solo Play and getting money for good shots. Unlocking trophy balls by completing specified challenges will also reward you with money. (If you collect enough trophy balls or money you will unlock a cheat usable in the console version of the game.) In addition, the money earned can be used to improve your player statistics. There are four attributes to improve: Power, Accuracy, Recovery and Luck and there are three items to buy: Woods, Irons and Balls.

The game play is straightforward with hazards, wind conditions and caddy commentary. Controls are designed for easy pick-up-and-play. The Directional pad angles shots left or right, while pressing up or down chooses your club. To swing, it’s only a matter of pressing one button to increase power on the swing gauge and using the same button to stop it correctly within the slice/hook zone. This will take some time to master (considering I was 17 over par on the first hole I ever played!) but persistence will pay off. The game’s impressive 3D visuals feature a grid overlay to show green undulations and split-screen viewpoints to display the course in its entirety. A noteworthy musical theme greets you during start-up while the in-game sound effects are nicely done. Progress is automatically saved.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 for mobile is an excellent choice for those wanting to play golf anytime. (Even those that carry their clubs in the trunk of their car for when the opportunity presents itself.) It is a streamlined version of a more technical game, but has enough depth to really make it enjoyable.
