X-Men Legends is an action RPG that follows the exploits of these well-known mutant heroes in their ongoing battle against Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Combining the fighting of a brawling game and the strategy and story of a role-playing game, it’s fast in-depth action for anyone who loves anything X-Men.

Commanding a squad of four mutants, you can choose from the likes of Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit and others. Each can be set with a particular stance that determines their aggressiveness in battle and use of special powers. After successfully battling an enemy, experience points will be earned that will advance character traits and special abilities. These character traits will determine the power of your X-Man.

Fighting is done in real-time and you can change characters from your squad at any time. Special abilities and item pick-ups can be accessed easily using a pop-up menu system and as you tailor your own super team of mutants, you will even be able to combine their abilities for some truly powerful attacks.

The game is fairly lengthy and the enemies come in all familiar forms. The isometric view provides a good overview and many items within the environment are destructible as well. Each character has its unique appeal that fans will clamor for using great colors and effects while the audio communicates all the action quite well.

X-Men Legends features a unique action-team-based fighting system that allows for up to four players to get in on the action using a cooperative mode via Bluetooth. This obviously makes the game more appealing if your circle of friends is also into the mutants. The game itself plays well and is very entertaining. At times, it can get a little hectic and confusing because there’s just so much going on, it’s easy to lose track of your characters. Nevertheless, it is one of the finest X-Men games available that truly absorbs you into the mutant universe.
